Dessert Tables

It's been a while since I posted on my blog... sorry to my lovely readers!

It's all about dessert tables...

These are fast becoming the luxury wedding cake centrepiece, designed to suit your style and theme.

With a tiered centrepiece wedding cake, designed with tumbling roses, lace and a beautiful cameo brooch. Around the table are delicate china cups, tiered stands and a tall glass cloche stand. Each cupcake has a vintage theme with shimmering pearl beads, mini roses, blossoms and hydrangeas.

Wedding Cupcakes & Cake

This has been an absolutely manic weekend with tonnes of cakes and cupcakes!!! Still trying to say 'no' but I always give in.

One of the best wedding cake set-ups was atWentbridge House Hoteltoday.

A table with a fabulouscentrepiece wedding cake, with cascading roses and hydrangeas; and a selection of cupcakes. What made the cupcakes special, was that they were set up on cake stands around the side of the main cake.

The cake itself was three tiers of Belgain chocolate cake filled with dark chocolate ganache buttercream.

To colour or not to colour?!!!

It seems there are lots of wedding cakes out there that are beautiful shades of colour. They range from the palest of pastels to the brightest of reds, and every colour inbetween!

But the question has to be, does anyone actually order a coloured wedding cake in the UK?

I've been looking through some absolutely gorgeous designs that are various shades of colour and fell in love with one particularly stunning red cake by the fabulous Rick Reichart... unfortunately I can't get the image to upload it here, such a shame, as it's lovely :0(

Design Inspiration

I'm in the process of designing new cake designs for a fabulous photoshoot I'm trying to plan for later in the year... only problem is there are just sooo many different design influences out there! Many cake designers use loads of sugar roses, and I have to say many of next year's cakes have sugar roses on them; however there are so many other flowers that can grace the side of your cake too... like magnolias, hydrangeas, lilies and peonies, as well as so many more.

I found this beautiful website whilst browsing

Wedding Cake Trends

Already we are busy booking in the diary for 2013, and what a busy time we're going to have!?!

So far it seems that couples are trending towards roses, and lots of them!

Over the weekend we signed four weddings into the diary for 2013 and three of these include lots of beautiful handmade sugar roses. Each rose is made with individual sugar petals, shaped and curled to look as natural as possible; dusted in shades to compliment the bouquet and table centrepieces. Roses are a versatile flower which matches a range of themes including the popular vintage shabby chic, modern black and white and even for the classic elegance theme.

Fantastic Wedding Details

Yesterday I delivered a summer garden wonky wedding cake for the wedding of Sarah and Martin Hughes. The room looked fantastic before we set up the main cake and the table centrepieces. It had a fuchsia colour scheme with the summer flowers twist.
Showing the room from behind the cake... fuchsia sashes on the chair covers and the three tier cake stands with our delicious cupcakes!
Each cake stand had a selection of cupcakes chosen by each guest prior to the day for their wedding breakfast dessert.

Wedding Cake Decorating Class

At Cakes by Occasion you can experience and learn the skills needed to make a centrepeice that will make you the envy of your friends.

Each design is based on a colour palate that you choose with the knowledge gained through our instruction. Learn the process of sugar roses, giving life-like petals and romantic curls ready to arrange on your finished cake.

Using one of our delicious sponge cakes you will torte, fill, mask and cover it using the finest quality sugar paste, learning the techniques to create the smoothest finish as in all of our cakes.

Wedding Consultations

This weekend I have mostly been doing wedding cake consultations.

It's always great to design something that will be so very special to couples on their big day. Each consultation lasts approximately 45 minutes, and gives you a chance to try some our cakes, talk about your wedding and design something that is completely bespoke for you.

When coming along for a consultation it's extremely important to have information relating to your venue, flowers, colour scheme and even your wedding dress. All of these things can then be incorporated into your design making all the details 'marry' together.

Doncaster Racecourse Wedding Show

Wow, what a day!!!

Today was the Doncaster Racecourse Wedding Show, and we were there to meet some fantastic brides, grooms and families. We had a great day talking cake, one of my favourite past-times, with many couples planning their 'big day'.

This was our stand;

All the designs were new ones unveiled at the show, including our vintage cupcake tower complete with vintage china cups and saucers.

On offer were our Belgian chocolate cake and vanilla cake, made with homemade vanilla extract.

We look forward to the many consultations over the next few weeks!
