Frequently Asked Questions

There's always questions about wedding cakes... here we try to answer the most frequently asked questions...

How much does a wedding cake cost?

This is the most commanly asked question and one where the response is a difficult one and seems so wishy-washy... but to help, a plain three tier stacked cake to feed 80 portions would be £250, add to that flowers, brooches, bows, figures or anything else and that will have an impact on the price.

What cake style do I want?

There are so many different options for wedding cakes, it is important to decide on what you like, what will fit in to your scheme or theme, cupcakes or mini cakes! The easiest way to find out what suits you is to look through wedding magazines, search the internet, or look at cake maker's galleries for inspiration. You will soon find that there is a common theme runnning through those that you like!

What decoration do I want?

This fits with the question about style... however, with options of flowers, fresh or sugar? bride & groom? piped details? ribbons? colours? As said before, look through magazines, the internet and galleries to find your style.

How big does it need to be?

One of the key questions that is asked when designing a wedding cake is 'How many guests does it need to feed?' This is an important factor in deciding on the size of your cake. However, if you want a bigger cake than needed, you can add false tiers in your cake; if you have more guests than you can accomodate with the cake design, you can add an extra 'cutting cake'. As a rough guide a normal 3 tier cake with tiers 6", 8" and 10" will feed approximately 80 guests.

What flavours should I choose?

The 'normal' cakes are fruit, vanilla, chocolate or lemon, but there are so many options that you could have! At Cakes by Occasion we cater with various sponge flavours like mocha, coconut, and banana; with different buttercreams and jams giving a multitude of options. Let your imagination run wild and try something new!!!
